Retailers Use Blu-ray Porn to Sell PS3 Console

TOKYO — Sony's PlayStation 3 gaming console has a built-in Blu-ray player, and Japanese retailers are using that fact to cross-promote sales of adult material on Blu-ray discs along with the game consoles.

News website Kotaku.com reported that one promotional display was in the basement adults-only section of AsoBitCity, an electronics retailer in Tokyo's Akihabara district.

The sign has adult video covers and according to Kokatku.com, it reads: "Blu-ray adult movies, definitely enjoy them on the new PS3!"

Earlier this year, Japan's adult industry adopted the Blu-ray format, with adult producers accessing technology and resources to manufacture the discs.

Many adults-only sections in retail stores in Japan reportedly have started stocking Blu-ray adult movies, with in-store displays and advertisements promoting the new 40GB Sony PS3 console as the best way to watch adult material in high-def.

As recently as January, Sony Corp., which manufactures the PS3 game console and developed the Blu-ray format, refused to work with the adult industry and would not permit adult material to be replicated at its Sony DADC disc manufacturing plants.
